Birds of Our Chalk Streams Online Talk

Th Arle Together project aims to be a catalyst for change by creating opportunities for people to engage with the Watercress Way through events, activities and volunteering. The project has opened up engagement and access to the Arle catchment by piloting a series of community led events and activities between 2022 and 2023. The activity is centered on involving people with the exploration and celebration of chalk streams.

The chalk streams along the Watercress Way are incredibly valuable for wildlife. In addition to an important range of aquatic plants and invertebrates, these waterways support many beautiful and fascinating bird species.

In this talk, Keith Betton highlights some of the birds that feed and nest along our local chalk streams. See the recording below and hear how birds use the rich environments of these watercourses to survive and thrive.

Keith is Hampshire's County Recorder for birds, as well as Chairman of the Hampshire Ornithological Society and Vice President of the British Trust for Ornithology. He is a keen world birder, having seen over 8500 species in nearly 110 countries.

This event is part of the Arle Together Project, led by The Watercress Way and supported by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Watercress and Winterbournes Project.

The Watercress Way is a charitable organisation that is dependent on grants and donations to support our work. If you would like to make a contribution please visit our Donations page.
