Dawn to Dusk Day 2022

We are delighted to be able to resume the Dawn to Dusk Day, our key event of the year. We have a full programme of events planned throughout the day, please sign up at the links below and consider providing a donation if you are able. These contributions are critical to enabling The Watercress Way to continue to manage and maintain the route.

All day virtual event

We will be running an all-day virtual event for anyone walking, running, cycling or riding on the route at any point during Dawn to Dusk Day. We’d love to see your updates on social media using the hashtag #dawntoduskday. You can also feedback to us via our Facebook page.

04:30-06:30: Dawn Chorus Walk

The first event is the dawn Chorus Walk starting at 4:30am for a 4:45am start at Arlebury Park Car Park. This gives you the opportunity to walk alongside the River Arle as the sun comes up and the birds start to sing. You will witness the beautiful countryside come to life as more birds sing to welcome the day. Your guide, Clive Cook, with expert assistance from RSPB volunteers will help you identify all the species you can hear and occasionally see. In the past we have identified nearly 40 different birds.
Please sign up. All donations go to support our work in maintaining and enhancing the route. No dogs please.

10:00-11:00: Railway Heritage Walk in Kings Worthy

Meet at 10am at Burnet Lane, Kings Worthy, SO23 7LR. A short walk exploring the history of the railway line. We will be joined by Railway Historian, Chris Cornell. We will explore the new paths at Top Field and then walk up the railway cutting from Woodhams Farm Lane. Most of the route is suitable for all ages (a diversion is available for the small section which is rough ground for those that need it). Maximum 1 hour.

1400:1600: Sutton Scotney Heritage and Nature Walk

Meet at 2pm at the Gratton near the site of the old Sutton Scotney Station. This was part of the Didcot-Newbury line which transported goods, including Watercress, from the south to the Midlands. The walk goes along part of the River Dever and encompasses both the Ecology and Railway Heritage of the area. We will stop off at the Wonston Arms for drinks and a rest break. This is a gentle stroll with no hills suitable for walkers of all ages.

18:00-19:00: Meet the Trustees

Your chance to meet The Watercress Way trustee team and ask any questions about the charity, the route, our plans, volunteering opportunities and any other points relating to our activities.

This is an informal event in a relaxed setting. We look forward to seeing you there!
