New benches along the route

While if you are really keen you can walk, run or cycle all of The Watercress Way in one go, we are very aware that walking the whole 27 miles is not to everyone’s taste.

There are 8 shorter circular walks which cover the whole route and enable you to cover the whole of The Watercress Way in stages. Each has a starting point in a car park. They are also mostly accessible by bus. More importantly, they have opportunities for refreshment nearby in local pubs and cafes.

For those who prefer a gentler approach we are delighted to announce that we have installed a further 4 benches using a legacy from Mike and Bridget Newitt via Alresford Rotary, bringing our total to 11 benches around The Watercress Way.

You can now find benches at:

  • One at The Eel House on the River Arle in Alresford

  • One at The Gratton in Sutton Scotney

  • Five along the straight mile of railway track in Martyr Worthy

  • One at Worthy Down Halt, also sited with a magpost nearby so children can inspect anything interesting that they find while their parents contemplate the historic old platform.

  • Three more along the railway cutting between Kings Worthy and South Wonston.

There are parking places near the sections in Martyr Worthy and in Kings Worthy and South Wonston.

We are delighted to have an updated map indicating these locations, which you can also find on our walking routes page.
