Trustees enjoy walking the Way during Lockdown 2020

During the difficult days of the repeated lockdowns the trustees have taken the opportunity of using The Watercress Way for their regular exercise. It is very good for our physical and mental well-being to get out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of southern Hampshire.

Mike has regularly walked the section from Kings Worthy up to Worthy Down Halt and the photographs show the railway cutting on a lovely sunny day in November. Kim is often to be seen walking her dog on the Martyr Worthy section and took this evocative black and white picture of a person enjoying the view from one of our benches. Chris, one of our new trustees, frequently walks around the Sutton Scotney section and took a photograph of this rainbow over the fields.

We are delighted that South Wonston Parish Council have improved the slippery ramp from the railway line onto the Oxdrove as well as resurfacing the path.

Although we have been limited by the lockdown restrictions we have taken the time to update our strategic plan and also to do a series of 7 walks covering the whole 27 miles in more reasonable sections of 4 miles or so. Please look at them on our walks page and take the opportunity to explore safely outside during the coming months.

Keep in touch with our activities via the website, Facebook and Instagram pages. Sign up as a Friend of the Way to receive our news updates.

The charity is totally reliant on your generosity in making donations. When doing your online shopping you can donate by nominating to us by making us your designated charity at no cost to yourself. Just sign up using Give As You Live or Amazon Smile.

We hope to be able to proceed with our projects in the summer of 2021 including:

  • A series of guided walks on the history and ecology of the trail
  • Improving the habitat for flowers and insects through cutting back unwanted plants
  • Providing a wheel chair ramp from Couch Green car park to aid access to the flat Martyr Worthy mile.
  • Installing a further 10 benches around the trail
  • Improving access to the Wonston Bridge which we have cleared of debris
