The hunt begins ….could you be a Trustee?

The Watercress Way Charity seeks 2 new trustees: a Treasurer and an Ecologist

Collage Trustee Poster March 2021 Treasurer: Could you oversee our efficient, easy to run online system? Training is available.Ecologist: Have you a knowledge of wildlife, conservation and interest in recreational land management and community involvement?  Typical trustee tasks include commenting on planning proposals affecting the route, as well as in leading scrub clearance! This community based charity set up a circular, waymarked marathon length walking trail in 2016. It uses two disused railway lines and historic rights of way, NE of Winchester.  Some is accessible for cyclists and horse riders. We work with the local community and other conservation groups to restore the heritage and conserve the ecology along the railway lines. We run guided walks, children’s events and an annual Dawn to Dusk Day, and exhibit at local shows and The Watercress Festival. We have attracted many local business sponsors and work closely with the rotary club and other charities. Our website and social media feeds chart our progress. The Covid-19 pandemic has not stopped us: it has increased demand to get outdoors into the beautiful Hampshire countryside near Winchester along our trail! In 2021 plans include: opening 0.5 kms of the old Watercress Line in Kings Worthy, building a disabled ramp at Martyr Worthy, enhancing the old railway bridge cleared recently in Sutton Scotney, publishing a Guide to the trail and installing more benches.Have you got the enthusiasm and skills to help the existing 8 trustees?   The commitment is to one trustee meeting a month (on zoom), plus additional voluntary time to support our events and activities. If you are interested please contact secretarythewatercressway@gmail.com for further information
